Aromas of hazelnut, raisin, and a touch of rose introduce this round-bodied cup. Notes of blackberry and golden raisin complement tangerine acidity, leading to a complex finish tinged with chamomile, walnut, and cocoa powder.

This uncommon varietal is a hybrid of the giant Maragogype bean and the more traditional and sweet Caturra. It is a productive plant but susceptible to leaf rust, so it must be carefully monitored. Maracaturra's unique characteristics, along with the dedication and skill of the producers at Finca El Socorro, create a coffee that is delicate, flavorful, and sweet.
This lot grows at 5,750 feet above sea level near the town of Palencia in southern Guatemala. After harvest the coffee is washed and carefully processed directly on the farm.
Juan Diego de la Cerda's Finca El Socorro has proven to be one of the best coffee farms in Guatemala year after year. In 2007, it won 1st place in the Guatemala Cup of Excellence for the first time and took 4th place in the same competition in 2008. In 2011, El Socorro's Maracaturra lot won the Guatemala Cup of Excellence Competition. Then, in 2012, Juan Diego finished in the top five in the Coffee of the Year competition. In 2020 he again took 1st place with his washed Gesha!
Such consistent results made us jump at the chance to become Direct Trade partners with Juan Diego, and we're proud to continue offering El Socorro's excellent coffees year after year.
