Aromas of milk chocolate, chamomile, and nougat introduce this round-bodied light-medium roast. We found notes of clementine and black tea in the cup, complementing yellow apple acidity. The aftertaste features coriander and shortbread.

Producer: Juan Diego de la Cerda
Farm: Finca El Socorro
Region: Palencia, Guatemala Department
Altitude: 5,750 feet | 1,753 masl
Varietal: Maracaturra
Process: Washed
Roast: Light-Medium
Notes: Nougat, Black Tea, Clementine

This uncommon varietal is a hybrid of the giant Maragogype bean and the more traditional and sweet Caturra. It is a productive plant but susceptible to leaf rust, so it must be carefully monitored. Maracaturra's unique characteristics, along with the dedication and skill of the producers at Finca El Socorro, create a coffee that is delicate, flavorful, and sweet.

This lot grows at 1,753 MASL near the town of Palencia in southern Guatemala. After harvest the coffee is washed and carefully processed directly on the farm.

Juan Diego de La Cerda's Finca El Socorro continues to prove itself one of the best coffee farms in Guatemala, with an enviable trophy case: 1st Place in the Guatemala Cup of Excellence competition in 2007, 2011, 2020, and 2023; 4th place in 2008; and top five in the Coffee of the Year competition in 2012.

The farm's consistent quality made us jump at the chance to become Direct Trade partners with Juan Diego more than a decade ago. We're proud to continue offering El Socorro's excellent coffees year after year.
