The province of Loja sits in the south of Ecuador on the western side of the sierra against Peru, which gives it its unique climatic conditions. Jorge Chuquimarca's farm is 30 hectares in total, with 2.5 hectares planted in coffee and plentiful shade from guabos and porotillo trees.

Jorge's parents were coffee farmers, and he learned everything he knows about coffee from them. When he was 10 years old his father gifted him a plot of land with 50 Typica trees, and since then he has been involved in producing coffee.

In 2012, coffee leaf rust struck the farm and decimated the Typica trees. They replanted with Bourbon, Sarchimor, and Typica Mejorada, but by the time the trees were mature enough for coffee production, in 2015, Jorge's parents had passed away. He was left with the farm where he lives with his wife Jhoana.

Jorge's production may be traditional, but nevertheless this Bourbon is impressively complex and nuanced. He hopes in the next few years to improve his infrastructure with a parabolic covered drying area and other equipment.
