The Story

Imported by our friends at Crop to Cup.

Located in eastern Uganda, on the slopes of Mt. Elgon, Sipi Falls sits on prime territory for growing Arabica coffee due to its altitude, generous soils, and abundance of natural waterfalls and streams. The region is home to the Sabiny Tribe, who migrated from Ethiopian highlands through the rift valley region in Kenya and eventually settled around Mt. Elgon.

Coffee growing was introduced to the region around 1920 by Catholic missionaries. In 1936, the first coffee nursery was established in Sipi Parish, marking the beginning of high-quality coffee production in the region. Today, the farmers that make up Chema Premium Farmers Group continue this tradition.

SL28 is a hybrid related to the Bourbon family that was created by Scott Agricultural Laboratories in Kenya in the 1930s. It's high-yielding, drought-tolerant, and performs very well at high altitudes.
