Incredible attention to detail in growing, picking, and processing has paid off in this stunning selection from La Palma y El Tucán's Heroes Series, with the natural process adding richness to the delicate floral notes typically found in a gesha.

Aromas of lilac and black cherry give way to honeydew and pomegranate in the brewed cup. Cranberry acidity and a juicy body lead to an apple note in the aftertaste, with a touch of cocoa nib adding bittersweet complexity.

This limited selection is available whole bean in 8-ounce Blue Label tube packaging. This coffee will roast on Tuesdays only.

The Story

Our Direct Trade Partners La Palma y El Tucán devote only 13 hectares of land to producing coffee, taking the utmost care in growing, harvesting, and processing the exotic and award-winning varietals in their Estate & Varietals program. Planted in 2012, this remarkable gesha is part of La Palma's Heroes Series: nano-lots comprising only the top 10% of the farm's output.

A team of 10 women coffee pickers—dubbed "The Elite Squad" for their attention to detail—harvested this coffee at peak ripeness. Because of the high humidity in the region, La Palma is only able to naturally process a limited quantity of coffee. The cherries were dried on raised beds in greenhouses to control airflow, rotated regularly, and kept under strict temperature control to prevent fungal contamination.
