*Final roast Tuesday, July 31st*

This limited gesha nanolot from La Palma y El Tucán's Heroes Series has undergone a unique lactic fermentation process to accentuate its ripe tropical fruit flavors. Aromas of grilled pineapple and caramel lead to notes of starfruit and rosehip in the cup, with mango sweetness. A round body balanced by kumquat acidity resolves into a stunning finish of marzipan and cinnamon.

The Story

Direct Trade partners La Palma y El Tucán devote only 13 hectares of land to producing coffee, taking the utmost care in growing, harvesting, and processing the exotic and award-winning varietals in their Estate & Varietals program. Planted in 2012, this remarkable gesha is part of La Palma's Heroes Series: nano-lots comprising only the top 10% of the farm's output.

A team of 10 women coffee pickers—dubbed "The Elite Squad" for their attention to detail—harvested this coffee at peak ripeness. After hand-sorting, the cherries were placed in air-tight fermentation tanks for 45-60 hours of anaerobic pre-fermentation. They were then de-pulped, placed in aerobic fermentation tanks for 18-20 hours, washed, and dried on raised beds. This unique processing method results in big, ripe tropical fruit flavors and a fuller body than is typical for geshas.
