A rare treat for coffee aficionados. This exceptional washed Gesha was the highest-scoring coffee in the 2020 Guatemala Cup of Excellence competition!

Aromas of pineapple, hyacinth, and pink grapefruit greet you, with more pineapple and layers of soft pear and rose hip emerging when sipped. The body is silky, with white peach sweetness and a touch of almond and coffee blossom in the finish.

This coffee is packaged in a 4oz pouch within a Blue Label tube alongside an information card about the producer and suggested brew parameters. This coffee roasts and ships on Tuesdays only—order by 4PM CT Monday to be included in Tuesday's roast.

The Story

Finca El Socorro gave this micro-lot special care and attention in preparation for the Cup of Excellence, and it shows in the unique and complex flavor of the coffee. We are thrilled to be able to offer this extremely limited coffee from our hardworking Direct Trade partner of 10 years!

Direct Trade

With a first-place finish in the 2020 Guatemala Cup of Excellence, Juan Diego de La Cerda's Finca El Socorro continues to prove itself one of the best coffee farms in Guatemala.

In 2007, it won first place in the Guatemala Cup of Excellence for the first time and took 4th place in 2008. El Socorro took first place again in 2011 with the Maracaturra lot. Then, in 2012, Juan Diego finished in the top five in the Coffee of the Year competition. Such consistent results made us jump at the chance to become Direct Trade partners with Juan Diego nearly a decade ago, and we're proud to continue offering El Socorro's excellent coffees year after year.


"Cup of Excellence is the most prestigious competition and auction for high quality coffees. The level of scrutiny that Cup of Excellence coffees undergo is unmatched anywhere in the specialty coffee industry. Each year, thousands of coffees are submitted for consideration, with winning coffees sold in global online auctions at premium prices, with the vast majority of auction proceeds going to the farmers.

"The Cup of Excellence competition has pioneered integrity and transparency in the coffee industry, ensuring the value of winning coffees. Each sample entering the competition process is assigned a number known only to the auditor for each competition, and each jury member cups the coffee blind. In addition, each lot is documented through the entire process so that winning coffees are traceable to the farm and exact micro-lot.

"Since 1999, the Cup of Excellence (COE) program has set the standard for the increased premiums that farmers have been able to receive for their exemplary coffees. It continues to build a much more transparent infrastructure and gives farmers the tools needed to improve the economic model of their farms. COE raises funds for coffees farmers in coffee growing countries incentivizing and motivating farmers who know there can be a recognition and financial reward for their hard work and effort."

This coffee will be produced once a week, on Tuesdays. You must order by 4PM CT on Monday to be included in Tuesday's roast.
