Nectarine and brown sugar aromas introduce this nicely structured cup. Notes of lemon iced tea and almond brittle accompany a hint of crisp Chardonnay in the background. Caramel sweetness is balanced by green grape acidity, with lingering lemon iced tea and a touch of coriander in the finish.

Nano Challa Cooperative formed in 2004 as a way for members to better process and market their harvest. In 2010, they were one of the first Ethiopian cooperatives to invest in a washing station, greatly improving the quality of their processed coffee. This raised them out of the commodity market and garnered specialty coffee prices for their harvest. In 2013, our roast of their washed lot won a Good Food Award.

Now boasting more than 700 members, Nano Challa has continued to invest in milling equipment, including a Penagos depulping machine that uses minimal water. Great care is taken in sorting the parchment, and the end result is a beautifully clean coffee with deep sweetness and great clarity.

Farmers deliver cherries to the central washing station, where they are processed using the eco-pulper before overnight fermentation of 10-12 hours. Drying takes 10-11 days on raised beds, with the first few days spent under a shade while surface moisture dries away.
