This washed heirloom coffee is sweet, floral, and complex. When brewed, we found jasmine and dark brown sugar in the aroma. The body is juicy, with a flavor of fresh coconut and honeydew, and wild strawberry acidity. Look for notes of mango and a spicy hint of bergamot in the lush finish.

The Nano Challa Cooperative is located in the Gera District, in the Jimma Zone of western Ethiopia. Nano Challa was formed in 2004 as a way for the collective members to better process and market their harvest. In 2010, they were one of the first Ethiopian cooperatives to invest in a washing station, greatly improving the quality of their processed coffee. This raised them out of the commodity market, garnering them specialty coffee prices for their harvest. Now boasting over 400 members, Nano Challa has continued to invest in milling equipment, including a Penagos machine that depulps the coffee using minimal water. Great care is taken in sorting the coffee parchment and the end result is beautifully clean washed heirloom coffee with floral and tropical fruit notes.
This is our first year offering Nano Challa since our 2013 roast earned 94 points from Coffee Review and won a Good Food Award.
