This lively coffee greets you with aromas of navel orange and raspberry jam as it brews, with a background of milk chocolate. It's a juicy cup, with notes of red grape and mandarin marmalade balanced by cranberry-like acidity. An almost nutty undertone of cocoa powder emerges in the long finish.

95 Points from Coffee Review: "A lovely example of the big-beaned Maracaturra variety: sweetly savory with notes of deep stone fruit and rich, sweet florals."

Be sure to try the first harvest of El Socorro's Java lot as well!

The Story

El Socorro's Maracaturra grows at 5750 feet near the town of Palencia in southern Guatemala. After harvest the coffee is washed and carefully processed directly on the farm.

This uncommon varietal is a hybrid of the giant Maragogype bean and the more traditional and sweet Caturra. It is a productive plant but susceptible to leaf rust, so it must be carefully monitored. The Maracaturra's unique characteristics, along with the dedication and skill of the producers at Finca El Socorro, create a coffee that is delicate, flavorful, and sweet.

In 2011, El Socorro's Maracaturra lot won the Guatemala Cup of Excellence Competition. Then, in 2012, Juan Diego finished in the top 5 in the Coffee of the Year competition. El Socorro has proven to be one of the best coffee farms in Guatemala year after year. Back in 2007, it won 1st place in the Guatemala Cup of Excellence for the first time and took 4th place in the same competition in 2008. Such consistent results made us jump at the chance to become Direct Trade partners with Juan Diego, and we're proud to continue offering El Socorro's excellent coffees year after year.

This coffee is also available green for the home roasters out there!
