Topeka’s PT’s at College Hill has been selected as one of “America’s 50 Best Coffee Shops” by The Daily Meal.
PT’s, which was founded in Topeka in early 1993, was No. 9 on the list. The top coffee shop was Everyman Espresso in New York.
In putting the list together, The Daily Meal — a website covering food and drink topics — first evaluated the coffee, selecting shops that used high quality beans and have close relationships with their roasters, or roasted the beans themselves. Then it evaluated the culture of the shop, looking for shops with “unique, tight-knit community” spaces and with some of the best-trained, most knowledgeable baristas around.
PT’s was highlighted as one of “the old guard that’s been succeeding at the specialty game for more than 20 years.”
Jeff Taylor, co-founder and coffee buyer at PT’s, said: “We are honored to be part of it. We’ve worked very hard and it’s nice to be recognized.”
PT’s recently took over the Crossroads Coffeehouse at 310 Southwest Blvd. It will temporarily close the shop from May 3 to 5 to rebrand to PT’s and refresh the decor.
