PT's Coffee

Vacuum Pot/Siphon Brewer Guide

Step 1 - Measure out one rounded tablespoon of coffee (8 grams) for every 4 ounces of water.

Step 2 - In your kettle, bring the filtered water almost to a boil.  Fill the bottom chamber of the brewer with hot water.

Step 3 - Grind the coffee a little finer than you would for an auto-drip brewer.

Step 4 - Put the ground coffee into the upper chamber, and fit the upper chamber into the bottom chamber, making sure that there is an air-tight seal.

Step 5 - Add your heat source (on a medium to low setting) underneath the brewer.

Step 6 - As the water rises into the top chamber and covers the grounds, gently stir the coffee mixture

Step 7 - When almost all of the water has risen into the top chamber, reduce the heat so that the infusing coffee remains in the top chamberfor between 1 and 3 minutes, based on the ammount of coffee being brewed.  For a 3 cup brewer, allow it to infuse for about 1 minute and 10 seconds.  For an 8 cup brewer, allow it to infuse for about 3 minutes.  It is important that you keep a small amount of water in the bottom chamber at all times to prevent the glass from cracking or exploding.

Step 8 - After the coffee has infused for the appropriate amount of time, remove the heat source from underneath the brewer.  The coffee will now be sucked back down into the bottom chamber.

Step 9 - When all of the coffee has been sucked into the bottom chamber, carefully remove the top chamber.

Step 10 - Pour, serve, and enjoy!
