We are proud to announce that our roast of Ethiopia Nanno Challa has been named a 2013 Good Food Awards Winner! We were in San Francisco on Friday January 18th to accept the award at the private awards ceremony. The ceremony, often referred to as ‘The Oscars of Food’, was held at the iconic San Francisco Ferry Building.
Our coffees were submitted to a professional panel of judges who cupped the coffees blind. The Good Food Awards for coffee are determined by exemplary flavor – sweet, clean, well developed body, balanced acidity and phenomenal aromatics. In addition to the results of the cupping, in order for coffees to qualify for the award, the producers and roasters needed to emphasize fairness and transparency from seed to cup. Environmental sustainability at the farm level is also a determining factor in the competition.
The Good Food Awards celebrates food that is not only tasty, but authentic and responsibly produced. The awards are given to nine categories: beer, charcuterie, cheese, chocolate, coffee, confections, pickles, preserves and spirits.
In addition to Nanno Challa, our roast of Kenya Thiriku was named a finalist in the competition. Ethiopia Nanno Challa is available exclusively at our cafe, PT’s Coffee Roasting Co. – Home of Flying Monkey Espresso, located at 17th & Washburn in Topeka, Kansas.
